Home › Retreats › Costa Rica Surf and Adventure Retreat in Santa Teresa with Daily Lessons and Yoga
Costa Rica · 8 days · From EUR 850
A typical week starts with an early surf. The camp is a few minutes' walk from the beach, so you're usually in the water around sunrise, when the offshore wind is still holding the waves up and the beach is quiet. Lessons run for surf levels 1, 2 and 3, with a maximum of three students per instructor, so you get real correction on your pop-up, your stance, and your paddling rather than just a push into a wave. Boards and rash guards are provided for lessons.
Breakfast back at camp is a mix of tropical fruit, fresh juice, and cooked options. You'll find shrimp tacos on the lunch menu, and there's a pool and hammocks under the palms for the middle of the day. Afternoons are free. You can walk into Santa Teresa for coffee and a bakery stop, or book one of the excursions — ziplining through the jungle canopy, cliff jumping at the waterfalls, a sunset horseback ride on the beach, a rafting day, or a four-wheeling trip to Montezuma. Yoga sessions are scheduled through the week at camp, usually in the late afternoon or early evening.
Santa Teresa itself is a laid-back surf village strung along a dirt road, with small restaurants, local bakeries, hip cafés and boutique shops. It's not a resort town — it's dusty, relaxed, and full of surfers. Evenings often end with a beach bonfire or a drink under the palm trees.
The waves here work for a wide range of levels. During the dry season the surf is smaller and cleaner, which is ideal if you're learning or improving on the intermediate side. The beach break is long and forgiving in places, with more powerful sections further along for experienced surfers. There are also reef and point setups nearby for advanced guests who want to get away from the lesson zone.
Lapoint is a Scandinavian surf camp operator that runs camps in several countries, and this is their Costa Rica location. The camp has a strong repeat-guest culture, and the staff run weekly beach cleanups and recycling as part of the operation. Groups tend to be mixed nationalities, with a wide age range, and plenty of solo travellers.
