Home › Retreats › Costa Rica Tropical Fitness & Adventure Retreat — Jungle Boot Camp in the Whale's Tail Hills
Costa Rica · 7 days
A typical day starts early, because the light and the cool air up at elevation are best before the heat rolls in. You'll train before breakfast — strength and core conditioning in the training area, or a jungle run if that's on the day's schedule — then eat a chef-prepared breakfast, much of it from the garden. Mid-morning tends to be an adventure block: waterfall canyoning and rappelling, mountain biking on the trails above Uvita, kayaking, paddle boarding, or a hike into the rainforest. Lunch is back at the guest-only restaurant. Afternoons are lighter — beach training sessions down on the sand, surf lessons in the warm Pacific, or free time at your villa's infinity pool. Evening brings a yoga class most days, dinner from the private chef, and drinks at the swim-up bar or the villa's service bar.
What separates this from other fitness retreats is that the property is yours. The five-villa estate is booked exclusively for your group, which means the bar and lounge areas, the main pool and swim-up bar, and the restaurant are all group-only. There's no sharing the space with other hotel guests.
Speaking of the location — you're 2 km northeast of the Catarata de Uvita waterfall, in the Costa Ballena stretch of the South Pacific. The elevation is high enough that you get cool breezes and good sleep, plus unobstructed Pacific views from wherever you happen to be standing. The area has more than 13 beaches protected inside national park, and many of them are empty. Whale and dolphin watching, snorkeling tours, horseback riding, and swimming in waterfalls are all on the menu if you want them.
The estate itself is a working piece of land as much as a hotel — over 500 fruit trees, an organic vegetable and herb garden, and wildlife that shows up on its own schedule: toucans, monkeys, parrots, and butterflies in the primary rainforest and cloud forest right above you.
Training is led by certified personal trainers who work with each participant's level, which matters in a group of no more than 10. If you've never done canyoning or can't yet hold a plank, they'll scale it. If you're fit and want to be pushed, they'll push. Meals are cooked by a private chef who specialises in healthy, organic cuisine, and the point of the week is to send you home knowing how to eat and train this way without needing a resort to do it for you.
