Lazio · 7 days
A typical day starts on the platform. It is 150m² of open decking set above the gardens, with mats, blocks, bolsters, belts and blankets already there, so nobody has to haul equipment from home. Morning classes usually run before breakfast. After that, the group eats together in one of the farmhouses, and the rest of the day is shaped by whoever is leading the retreat. Some leaders put a second session in before dinner; others leave the afternoon free.
The pool and the gardens fill the afternoons. There are shaded corners for reading and tables outside for long lunches. Guests regularly book massages during the week, and a ceramics workshop in the area is a popular half-day trip. One host wrote about doing a nature walk, plenty of massages and a ceramics workshop alongside daily yoga on the platform and afternoon pool time — that is a fair picture of how a week here tends to go.
What separates OLEA from a hotel that happens to have a yoga room is that the whole site is yours for the booking. You are not sharing the pool or the platform with other guests, and you can change the room configuration before you arrive — beds separated or pushed together, singles or doubles or triples. It also has a proper indoor shala for when the weather turns, plus outdoor spaces all over the property where you can practise if the group wants a change of scene.
The venue sits in Torri in Sabina, a village in the Sabina hills about an hour and a half from Rome. The area is olive groves, hill towns and quiet roads — good for walking, easy for day trips. Sally and Ludwig took over the former In Sabina Yoga Retreat and now run OLEA, keeping the same setup that made the place work for yoga groups in the first place.
Most groups come for six nights, Sunday to Saturday, and catering is arranged either by bringing your own chef or by using the local chef and staff OLEA works with. That flexibility means a retreat here can be fully catered or self-catered, depending on the group.
