United States · 4 days · From USD 1296
The core of this retreat is the unplug. When you arrive, your hosts greet you and help you store your tech away, so you're not tempted. Then you settle into your yurt or cabin, and the only scheduled things on the calendar are a guided walk to learn the land's energy spots, an optional evening session of yin yoga or yoga nidra or a sound bath, and a closing ritual before you leave. The rest is spaciousness. Guests spend hours by the creek, read, write, hike, or nap—and a lot of people find that the most productive thing they do all weekend is just stare at the trees and let their minds settle.
This is not a silent retreat in the strict sense, and it's not a bootcamp either. The flexibility is a big part of the appeal: if you want more guidance, the Hestia team (Belinda is the land steward most mentioned in reviews, but there are several facilitators) will help you self-direct, and if you want total solitude, they leave you to it. One reviewer brought her teenage son and used the open program to hike and meditate together; another came alone after a divorce and worked through things with Belinda's coaching. You get out of it what you put in, but the setting does a lot of the heavy lifting.
Mount Shasta itself has a reputation far beyond Northern California—New Age seekers and indigenous tribes alike treat the mountain as a power spot, and the property sits on the side of it, surrounded by ponderosa pine and incense cedar, with a creek running through. The mineral springs at Stewart are a 15-minute walk away, and the hosts can point you toward nearby hikes, lakes, and the town of Mount Shasta if you want to leave the property. But most people find they don't need to leave. The land itself is the draw.
The facilities are simple but comfortable: a 20-foot yurt or a snug eco-cabin, both with kitchenettes so you can eat on your own schedule, a woodstove for cool nights, and a sky dome in the yurt for looking at the stars from bed. There's free parking, a small pool during summer, and a yoga shala/deck for the on-site sessions. Meals are pre-made and stocked in your kitchen before you arrive, matched to your stated dietary preferences—vegan, gluten-free, keto, whatever you need. This is a retreat that trusts you to direct your own experience, and it works remarkably well for people who are ready to do that.
