Home › Retreats › Digital Detox Retreat in Central Florida: A Phone-Free Group Getaway at a Dude Ranch
United States · 4 days
Westgate River Ranch sits on a large tract of Central Florida ranch land in River Ranch, roughly halfway between Orlando and Tampa. It operates as a resort and dude ranch, so the setting is open pasture, oak hammocks and water rather than a beach or a city. The digital detox programme is one of the ways the property packages its outdoor activities for groups.
A sample four-day group itinerary shows how it runs. Monday starts with a welcome brunch and hayride from 10am to noon, then group rotation activities from noon to 3pm, time back in the rooms from 4pm, dinner and karaoke at 5:30pm, a campfire with s'mores at 6:30pm, a movie and snacks at 8pm and lights out at 10pm. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday follow a similar shape: breakfast at 9am, group rotation activities from 10am to 4pm (until 2pm on Thursday), lunch at noon, room time at 4pm, then the same evening line-up of dinner, campfire and movie. Thursday closes with pickup between 3pm and 4pm instead of the evening programme.
The activities in those rotation blocks are the reason to come. Groups can be set an Amazing Race-style adventure, take private hayrides, learn line dancing and go on a cattle drive. Families get archery, swamp buggy rides and airboat trips. The ranch frames all of this as time away from devices, with the campfire as the evening centrepiece — storytelling and stargazing rather than a screen.
Because it is a group product, the schedule is tailored rather than fixed. You submit a request for proposal with your dates, number of sleeping rooms and group name, and the ranch comes back with a plan. That makes it workable for a company offsite, a school or youth group, or a multi-family trip, but it is not a drop-in retreat for a solo traveller looking to join a set departure.
What separates this from a standard activity holiday is the explicit phone-free framing. The ranch publishes digital detox challenges and guides for both kids and adults, and the programme is designed so that the day is full enough that nobody is reaching for a device. It is a ranch holiday with the screens deliberately left out, not a wellness centre with a spa menu.
