Home › Retreats › Eco-Luxury Wellness Escape with Daily Yoga and Balinese Culture
Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 772
The daily yoga and meditation happens in one of two semi-open-air shalas next to the nature, with classes varying between Hatha, Vinyasa, Qi-gong, and other styles. Three in-house teachers — Jane, Besral, and Dr. Han — lead sessions suited to your level, and the morning meditation with Jane on the beach is something several guests mention as a highlight. You're free to trade activities if something doesn't suit you, and the team is happy to adjust things based on how you feel.
Culture is woven through the afternoons. Depending on the day, you might walk through the village, cycle the back roads, hike to Tanah Lot temple, visit Taman Ayun temple, take a Balinese cooking class, learn to make Hindu offerings, shape Balinese pastries, join a traditional dance class, or paint mandalas. Guests often talk about the village tour — meeting the craftspeople who hand-shape clay temple parts, farmers explaining irrigation in the rice fields, even visiting a local elementary school.
The resort itself is part of De Moksha, an eco-luxury property where the villas have King Koil Steinbeck mattresses and Lyocell sheets — the kind of bed you don't want to leave in the morning. Morning comes early for yoga, but the comfort makes it a challenge. Every room has air conditioning, a smart TV, and that semi-open-air bathroom with a bathtub, so you can be outside while staying clean and cool.
The melukat ceremony on the first morning is private and performed on site by a Balinese shaman. It's a water-purification ritual meant to cleanse the body and mind, refresh the spirit, and dissolve negative influences. For many guests, this is the most memorable part of the week — a personal, grounded start that feels far from a tourist experience.
The property also runs as a regular hotel, which can take a day to get used to. Guests on retreat have a specific menu and included activities, while hotel guests do their own thing. Once you understand the split, it's straightforward. The retreat guests get a special menu but can order from the regular menu at reasonable prices, and the kitchen is happy to make adjustments for dietary needs or timing — one reviewer mentioned eating half their breakfast before yoga and saving the rest for after class.
