El Salvador · 8 days · From EUR 1710
The camp runs on what they call The Surf Sequence, a progression system the academy compares to a belt system in martial arts. You arrive on a Sunday, check in, get your welcome kit and camp schedule, and meet the academy staff. Coaching days are Monday through Saturday, and each one follows the same structure: theory and warm-up with your coach at 7am-ish, an in-water session that a filmmaker records, a break, then video analysis where the coach goes wave by wave through your posture, positioning, speed and wave selection. Then drills. The drills aren't filler — they're in the lap pool, the gym, or on a skateboard on a concrete wave, and the point is muscle memory you take back into the water the next day.
What sets this apart from a standard surf school week is the ratio and the feedback loop. Maximum 4 participants per group means your coach is watching almost every wave you take. The video analysis is 45 minutes every single day, and the footage is emailed to you, so you leave with an actual record of your progression rather than a vague sense that you improved. Beginner, Novice and Foundation groups each get their own progression path, so you're not sitting in a class pitched at someone else's level.
The property sits on El Salvador's surf coast and functions as both a hotel and a performance academy. On site there's a lap pool for drills, a gym, a concrete wave for skateboard training, and Covana Kitchen for meals. Each morning you and your group drive with your coach to whichever break suits the day's conditions, and the driver stays with the car for the whole session so your stuff is safe on the beach.
Afternoons rotate through a complimentary activity — restorative yoga at 4pm on Mondays, a UNatural mobility class at 4pm on Tuesdays, an ice bath with breathwork at 4pm on Wednesdays, and self-defence at 6pm on Fridays, plus a 1pm half-day tour on Saturdays for the Full Week and Two Weeks camps. One relaxing massage is included per week; book it at the front desk in advance. Friday night is a suggested night out.
Surfing is weather-dependent and the camp is upfront about it: if conditions are unsafe or unsuitable, in-water sessions get cancelled and replaced with structured land-based work on technique, theory and physical preparation. If days remain, coaches may extend later sessions to make up for it. Sessions lost to natural conditions aren't refundable or creditable.
