Facing Mortality, Embracing Life: A Six-Day Yoga and Breathwork Immersion in Guatemala

Guatemala · 6 days · From USD 1035

The Yoga of Death retreat is a six-day journey that flips the conventional wellness script. Instead of focusing on pleasure and escape, it invites you to turn towards discomfort and consider what becomes possible when you stop avoiding mortality. Over the course of the week, you'll explore both literal and symbolic deaths: the endings of habits, identities, relationships, and beliefs that have shaped you, and which may now be holding you back. Through a thoughtfully designed sequence of practices, you'll learn to approach these endings with curiosity rather than fear, creating space for authenticity and purpose to emerge.

Each day on the retreat is structured around a different 'death.' Daily sessions include yoga, breathwork, meditation, and contemplative teachings, often drawing on the lineage of Neem Karoli Baba and Ram Dass, which emphasizes conscious dying and the importance of living with an open heart. There are also group process sessions where you can share and reflect with other participants, as well as time for rest and integration in the sanctuary's natural surroundings. The schedule is demanding but not punishing, balancing deep inner work with the need for rest and reflection.

The setting is integral to the experience. Maestro Valley is a regenerative sanctuary built with sustainability in mind, powered by renewable energy and surrounded by jungle and gardens. There is a sound healing dome, ceremonial temples, a cliffside temazcal, and open-air practice spaces that feel intimately connected to the landscape. The town of San Marcos La Laguna, a hub for spiritual seekers, is close by, yet the sanctuary itself feels worlds away. You'll share meals with the group in a communal setting, enjoying locally sourced, organic food that supports the inner work you're doing.

The retreat is facilitated by Nick, a spiritual teacher and international yoga instructor with a deep lineage in conscious dying. He is supported by a small team that provides compassionate guidance throughout the week. The group is intentionally limited to a maximum of 16 participants, and you'll apply to join, ensuring a safe and committed container. By the end of the week, most people report a renewed sense of purpose, greater emotional resilience, and a deeper connection to life itself.
