Home › Retreats › Fellscapes: Lake District Functional Fitness Camp with Hiking, Wild Swimming & Yoga
United Kingdom · 4 days · From GBP 750
The camp is built around workshops rather than straight classes. The gymnastics workshop breaks down movement patterns on the floor and bars; the weightlifting workshop covers the technical lifts with hands-on coaching; a bodybuilding session focuses on hypertrophy and isolation work. Around those sit multiple metcons, so conditioning gets trained alongside skill, plus mobility sessions and yoga to keep shoulders, hips and ankles working after the heavier blocks.
What makes it different from a weekend of back-to-back WODs is that roughly half the time is spent outside the box. There's a guided trail run on Lakeland terrain, a wild water swim with cold water therapy, and a full day out on a guided hike. There's also a lakeside activity on the schedule — paddle boarding or a sauna, to be confirmed nearer the time. A local guide leads the hiking, so you're on real routes with someone who knows the fells instead of following a GPX file.
The team behind it, Chelsea Eddy-Waland and Jess Rosart, both coach, and the sessions are run by specialist coaches who adapt every movement. That means a first-time weightlifter and someone chasing a PB can be in the same room without either being bored or out of their depth. You'll be sent a proposed itinerary and kit list six weeks before the camp, with a final check-in the week before.
Kendal sits at the southern gateway to the Lake District, so the hotel base puts you within easy reach of the fells, the water and the trails without long transfers. Rooms at Castle Green are twin or double and shared by default; you can book a private room if you'd rather not share, and roommates are allocated unless you specify who you want to be with on booking.
The food side is straightforward and generous: breakfast at the hotel every morning, two three-course dinners at the hotel, and one evening meal out — last time that meant wood-fired pizza by the lake. Everyone also gets a goodie bag worth £50+, and there's professional photography across the weekend.
It's an active trip and the schedule is full, so it suits people who want to train, walk and swim in the same day rather than pick one. But the coaching is structured so that experience isn't a barrier: turn up with a reasonable baseline and the sessions get scaled to you.
