Indonesia · 8 days · From USD 950
A typical day starts at 07:00 with a 60-minute vinyasa class in the shala, or a strength session in the gym if you have picked the fitness track. Breakfast is served at 08:30 — fruit, eggs, toast, coffee, and a rotating local dish like nasi goreng. From 10:00 the day is yours until the late-afternoon session. Most guests walk into Ubud, hire a scooter, or stay by the pool.
The second session runs at 17:00 and alternates between conditioning circuits, mobility work, and a slower yin or restorative yoga class. Dinner is at 19:00, cooked on site, and is usually vegetarian with a fish option twice a week. Wednesday is a rest day — no sessions at all — and most people use it for a day trip to the Tegallalang rice terraces or a Balinese cooking class.
What separates this from the dozens of other Ubud yoga weeks is the training side. You get two sessions a day, six days a week, with a coach who writes the programme around the group rather than reading from a fixed sheet. The gym is small but properly equipped: kettlebells, barbells, rowing machine, and a rig for pull-ups and rings. It is not a commercial gym, and that is the point.
The guesthouse has eight rooms, a saltwater pool, and a shared kitchen. It is family-run, and the same people who cook your breakfast will organise your airport pickup. Rooms are simple — fan or A/C, mosquito nets, hot showers — but clean and quiet at night. The property backs onto a working rice field, so the soundtrack is frogs and, at 05:30, the call to prayer from the village mosque.
Instructors rotate by week. The current lead is Made Surya, who has taught yoga in Ubud for eleven years and holds a 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification. The strength sessions are run by a certified personal trainer, usually Wayan Putra, who has worked with visiting athletes and runs the gym programme at a local CrossFit box in his off-hours. Both speak English and Indonesian.
Getting there: Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is about 90 minutes by car. The retreat includes one airport transfer each way. If you arrive outside the transfer window, a private car costs around IDR 350,000 and the guesthouse will book it for you.
