Home › Retreats › Her Nature: Ayurveda, Yoga & Archetypes Women's Retreat in Portugal's Douro Valley
Douro Valley · 8 days · From EUR 1600
The setting is Quinta do Outeiro, a restored 400-year-old vineyard estate in the village of Cidadelhe, overlooking rolling hills, grape vines and olive trees. Meals happen around the fire in a medieval dining room, and the yoga room has constellations painted across its ceiling. Guests sleep in one of nine bedrooms — a four-person dorm, a triple, doubles, or private rooms — all with ensuite bathrooms and each named after something grown on the property (pomegranate, fig, lemon, orange, olive, grape, protea).
The daily rhythm is fairly consistent, with the content rotating. An 8:00–9:30am all-levels Hatha or Vinyasa practice opens most days; brunch follows at 10:00 with things like mango turmeric smoothies and shakshuka; the middle of the day (11:00–2:00) is for a workshop or an off-site trip; a light lunch lands around 2:00 (beetroot salad with ginger candied walnuts, sweet potato soup); 3:00–4:30 is pool and hammock time; a restorative evening practice runs 4:30–6:00; dinner is at 7:00 with a plated appetiser, a family-style main and dessert.
What sets this week apart from a standard yoga retreat is the archetype structure combined with the Ayurveda teaching. The Mother day is grounded in a Haṭha class and a guided vineyard walk plus the Introduction to Ayurveda workshop. The Maiden day is Vinyasa and a long Yin session. The Warrior day swaps the morning practice for Pilates and takes the group out on a boat along the Douro. The Wild Woman day pairs Vinyasa with the in-house wine tour and tasting and an evening Embodied Dance practice. The Wise Woman day includes an optional hike to the Roman bridge, a herbalism workshop on plants and traditional remedies, and Sound Healing to close. The Queen day finishes with Vinyasa, an optional guided ice-bath workshop, and a closing circle.
Eva Hamilton and Esperanza Eusebio lead together. Eva has taught full time since 2008, trained in yin and restorative yoga and functional movement, and specialises in teacher training. Esperanza has 14 years of teaching behind her, is originally from Mexico and now based in Ontario, owns The Yoga Barn in Lake Rosalind, and brings Ayurveda, anatomy and Pilates into her teaching. Between them the week covers slow restorative work and more active movement, so the schedule suits both.
The property itself is the reason people book: seven years of restoration work, a plunge pool with a waterfall, sauna, gardens, terraces, vineyard paths, an equipped yoga studio (mats, bolsters, blocks, straps, blankets and therapy balls all provided), and a dog and cats in residence. Everything on the schedule is optional — the point is that you find your own pace rather than march through a fixed programme.
