High-Altitude Sports Training Camps in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan

Kyrgyzstan · 7 days

Issyk-Kul Lake sits at 1,600 m in Kyrgyzstan and is the region's main summer training base. International teams use it for pre-season and summer camps because of the mild climate and the balance of sun, altitude and oxygen. Hotel Kapriz Issyk-Kul Resort has an Olympic-size swimming pool, football fields, tennis courts and a private beach. Karven Four Seasons Resort is built for team stays, with training zones, fitness centres and meeting rooms for coaching sessions. Aurora Resort & Spa has fitness facilities and a long history as a resort. On the sports side there are open-water and indoor pools with proper lanes, lakeside running paths, grass football and volleyball fields with floodlights, and halls equipped for boxing and martial arts. Kyrgyz national teams train here, along with visiting clubs from Russia, Kazakhstan and Europe.

Karakol, further east and higher at over 2,000 m, is the winter base. Alpine skiing and snowboarding camps run December to March, with ski mountaineering and endurance training alongside. In summer the same mountains work for mountain biking, trail running and hiking. The Karakol Ski Base Hotel sits right by the slopes; Green Yard Hotel has a gym and serves local food; Altamira Hotel has modern rooms, a sauna and meeting facilities for sports groups. The altitude and clean mountain air make it a serious option for aerobic conditioning.

Almaty is the third hub and the most versatile. Almaty Arena is a multipurpose complex used for hockey and figure skating. The Medeu High-Mountain Skating Rink is one of the highest ice rinks in the world. Shymbulak Ski Resort has modern slopes and mountain hotels for ski teams, and the Almaty Olympic Pool is used for professional swimming and water polo. For accommodation, Rixos Almaty Hotel has large fitness facilities, Hotel Kazakhstan is central and used to teams, and Shymbulak Resort Hotel is next to the ski lifts. The advantage of Almaty is that you can combine city facilities with mountain training in the same camp.

Beyond those three, the DMC also runs camps in Bishkek, which has national sports centres, boxing and wrestling halls, athletics stadiums and swimming complexes; Cholpon-Ata on the shore of Issyk-Kul, with football fields and a 50 m indoor pool; Tashkent in Uzbekistan, with modern arenas and tennis courts for regional competitions; and Samarkand and Bukhara, which suit recovery camps and light training alongside the sightseeing.

The sports they organise camps for include football, swimming and triathlon, boxing and martial arts, skiing and snowboarding, athletics and endurance, tennis and badminton, and cycling and mountain biking. Each camp is customised for professional teams, universities, youth academies or corporate groups. Leisure can be built in: boat trips on Issyk-Kul, cultural tours in Almaty and Bishkek, trekking in Karakol National Park, and thermal spas and wellness treatments.

Logistics are handled end to end. The team arranges hotels and venues, transfers, visa assistance, equipment rental, coaching coordination, and 24/7 local support with translation. They provide bilingual coordinators, physiotherapists, translators and first-aid specialists. Catering can be set up with team nutritionists in advance, including high-protein, vegetarian and halal menus. Medical and physiotherapy centres are available in Almaty and Bishkek, and resorts such as Kapriz have in-house massage and sauna recovery. Camps are organised for groups travelling from Dubai, Europe, South Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Singapore and South America.
