Home › Retreats › Himalayan Wellness Escape: Yoga, Meditation & Nature in Rishikesh
Rishikesh · 4 days · From USD 129
Saptkaya Yoga School runs several retreats out of their property on Secret Waterfall Road, and this four-day programme is the shortest. It's aimed at people who want a taste of ashram-style living without committing to a week or more — a long weekend of yoga, fresh air, and simple food in the Himalayan foothills.
The yoga here is traditional Indian: Hatha and Ashtanga, taught by instructors with Yoga Alliance certifications and, in most cases, years of experience teaching in Rishikesh. Classes are adapted to all levels, so complete beginners and experienced practitioners share the same sessions. The teachers adjust poses individually and keep groups small (maximum 25, often fewer). Pranayama and meditation round out the daily practice, and one session during the retreat is dedicated to either sound healing or yoga nidra (guided deep relaxation).
Outside of practice time, the retreat includes guided hikes into the surrounding forest and group trips into Rishikesh proper. The town is famous as a yoga destination, but it's also full of temples, ashrams, and cafes along the Ganges. You'll visit some of the main spiritual landmarks and have free time to wander. The school arranges all transport during the retreat, so logistics are handled.
Accommodation is simple but comfortable — air-conditioned rooms with ensuite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and terraces. The property has a garden, a yoga shala, a small spa, and a restaurant serving all meals. It's not a luxury resort, but it's clean, quiet, and well-suited to the purpose.
What sets this retreat apart from similar programmes in Rishikesh is the location. Upper Tapovan is above the tourist bustle, close to waterfalls and trails, so you get the spiritual atmosphere of Rishikesh without the noise. The teaching team is unusually deep — nine instructors with backgrounds in everything from Iyengar yoga to Ayurveda to clinical psychology — so there's real expertise behind the sessions.
