Holistic Yoga Retreats on the Mediterranean Coast and in the Slovenian Alps

Slovenia · 7 days · From EUR 1400

The week follows a fairly simple rhythm. A yoga class in the morning, almost always outdoors when the weather allows, followed by breakfast. After that there is usually a walk — sometimes along the coast, sometimes up into a valley — or a trip to a local producer, a market or a wine cellar. Afternoons are free for swimming, reading or resting, and there is a second, gentler yoga session or a workshop before dinner. Dinner is cooked by the group's chef and is the main sit-down meal of the day, eaten together.

What distinguishes these weeks is that the same team stays with the group for the whole week rather than being booked in per class. A chef travels or is based with each group, which means the food is cooked fresh for the group's diet rather than chosen from a set menu, and the yoga teacher is the person you see at every session. The coastal weeks are based in quiet stretches of the Mediterranean rather than in a resort strip — the point is that you can walk to swim, walk to the next village, and not spend the week in traffic.

The Slovenian weeks swap sea for mountains. Mornings are noticeably cooler, hiking is steeper and longer, and the food leans towards the produce of the valley you are staying in. If you have been to a coastal yoga holiday before and want the same structure in a different landscape, this is the version to pick.

The excursions are a real part of the programme rather than optional add-ons. Food and wine tours, market visits and cultural trips to nearby towns are worked into the week, and the retreat describes culinary tours as one of the main draws alongside the yoga and hiking.

Because the week runs at several locations and several dates across the season, the exact mix of classes, hikes and excursions depends on which week you book. The best approach is to say which dates suit you and ask what that particular week includes — the organisers can tell you what is already scheduled and what will be added for your group.
