Horseback Healing Retreat to Machu Picchu, Peru

Horseback Healing Retreat to Machu Picchu, Peru

Peru · 4 days · From USD 1725

This four-day retreat is a carefully crafted journey through the Sacred Valley and beyond. It's run by Wari Adventures, an indigenous-led travel agency based in the valley, with guides who were born and raised in the local highland communities. Their deep knowledge of the region's traditions, archaeology, and spiritual significance adds a rich layer to the experience. As you trek on horseback, you'll not only be an observer of the landscape but a participant in its living culture, connecting with the land and its history in a way that wouldn't be possible in a larger tour group.

Your days will be filled with a mix of riding and hiking, with the horses carrying your gear and sure-footedly navigating the trails. The route includes visits to the pre-Inca paintings at Llama Pintayoq, the impressive Inca city of Perolniyoq with its waterfall, and the Intiwatana sun gate, where you'll take in sweeping views of the Nevado Veronica peak. Along the way, your guide, Alfredo, will share stories and historical context, making the ancient ruins and mountain passes come to life. The pace is steady but unhurried, with plenty of time to soak in the scenery and connect with your horse.

At the end of the trail lies the reward: Machu Picchu. After three days of riding through the Andes, you'll take a final train ride to Aguas Calientes, spend the night in a hotel, and rise early to see the sun rise over the ancient citadel. A guided tour brings the ruins' history to life, and you'll have time to explore and perhaps climb Huayna Picchu for a truly unmatched view. This retreat finds the perfect balance between adventure and reflection, physical challenge and cultural discovery, making it a memorable and deeply fulfilling experience.
