Day to day, the rhythm is: yoga, breakfast, day trip, lunch, more exploring or free time, dinner. The yoga classes are usually 60–90 minutes and vary between vinyasa flow, slower hatha and restorative sessions depending on the day. Erin tailors them to whoever's in the room — if most people are beginners, she'll break things down; if it's a more experienced group, she'll pick up the pace. The studio at Hotel Grímsborgir has floor-to-ceiling windows, so you're doing warrior two with a view of moss-covered lava.
The excursions are the other half of the week. You'll see the main Golden Circle stops — Þingvellir National Park, Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall — but also lesser-visited spots like Reykjadalur valley (where you can hike to a warm river and swim) and the black sand beach at Reynisfjara near Vík. There's a stop at a tomato farm and greenhouse for lunch, a visit to a geothermal bakery where bread is baked in the ground, and a soak in the Blue Lagoon. Depending on the season, you might also see puffins, Icelandic horses, or the northern lights if you're there in winter.
The retreat usually runs in summer (midnight sun) and occasionally in winter (northern lights). In summer the days are long, so there's more daylight for exploring. In winter you get shorter days but the payoff is snow-covered landscapes and the chance of aurora.
What sets this apart from other Iceland yoga retreats is the combination of a single, comfortable base with a packed but not exhausting itinerary. You're not camping or staying in a different guesthouse every night. The hotel has a restaurant, a bar, a sauna, and outdoor hot tubs, plus the private thermal pool. Rooms are simple but warm and modern, with private bathrooms. The hotel is about an hour from Reykjavik, so you're away from the city lights but still within easy reach if you want to spend a free afternoon in town.
Erin has been running these Iceland trips for years and has relationships with local guides and restaurants. That means you get small things that make a difference: a table booked at a family-run restaurant, a guide who knows where the crowds aren't, and flexibility if weather changes plans. The group size is capped so it feels like travelling with friends rather than a tour group.
