Istria Yoga & Culture Retreat: A Week of Coastal Wellness in Croatia

Croatia · 7 days · From USD 3100

Sandra Tedeschi has been running Vajra Sol retreats for years — this is her Croatia trip, and it's the same formula she uses in Costa Rica, Mexico, and Patagonia. The yoga is alignment-based Hatha with slow flow vinyasa, taught in a hotel activity space or elsewhere on the property. Some classes are restorative, some include guided meditation. All levels are welcome, and Sandra adjusts for beginners through to people who've practiced for decades.

The setting is the heart of the Istrian Peninsula, near the Italian border. It's rolling hills, medieval hill towns, and the Adriatic coast — a region known for olive oil and wine. The hotel is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property with a Michelin-recommended restaurant. Rooms are in an authentic Istrian stone building; the double deluxe rooms have either a king bed or two twins, a modern bathroom with shower, a desk, and a balcony overlooking the garden. There's an outdoor pool, sun terraces, a sauna and jacuzzi, and lavender gardens.

A typical day: yoga in the morning, then a Mediterranean breakfast. After that, either an organised outing or free time. Lunches aren't included, so you eat where you like — in town, at the hotel, or somewhere you've wandered to. Dinners are at the hotel most nights, with a few dinners out in nearby villages.

The organised outings are what separate this from a generic yoga week. There's a guided truffle hunt — truffles are a specialty of Istria — a walking tour of Rovinj with its cobblestone streets and Venetian-era architecture, and a boat cruise along the Adriatic coast. The rest of the time you're free to hike or bike the hills, take a cooking class, visit a winery, get a spa treatment, or swim.

What makes it different from a similar yoga retreat is the operator's track record and the small group. Sandra has led dozens of these trips, keeps groups to 16, and handles the logistics — you book your flight and show up. Guest reviews repeatedly mention that everything is planned out and that travelling solo felt safe and easy. If you want a yoga week where the yoga is solid but the surrounding trip is genuinely interesting, this is that.
