Jungle Reset Yoga & Wellness Escape in Costa Rica

The Reset Retreat is a six-day, five-night stay at Vida Asana, an eco-resort in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, founded in 2002 by Alejandro and Rose and one of the first yoga retreat centers on the Pacific coast. The property sits in the jungle about a kilometer (roughly a mile) from the beach, in a quiet surfing community between Jaco and Manuel Antonio, about 90 minutes from San José airport. It's a peaceful spot with open-air common spaces, a pool, and a garden that blends into the rainforest.

Each day includes a yoga class led by a rotating group of experienced teachers. Cecile Populaire, who trained in Guatemala and grew up on Reunion Island, teaches a style rooted in connection with nature. Ale, a Costa Rica native, blends Ashtanga Vinyasa and Iyengar traditions with mobility work, and has been teaching since 2006. Polly, certified in India, offers hatha, yin, meditation, and pranayama. Classes are small enough that you get personal attention, and the level is adapted to whoever shows up.

The food is a strong reason people come back. Meals are served three times a day, with an emphasis on fresh organic fruits and vegetables, locally sourced whenever possible. There's always a vegan option, and fresh caught fish appears on the menu occasionally. Dietary requirements like gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and nut-allergy-friendly are all catered for.

Beyond yoga, the area is known as Central America's adventure capital. You can take surf lessons, go on nature walks, or head into Jaco, five minutes by car, for a night out or shopping. The resort also offers spa treatments like massages. The vibe is social but relaxed — most guests are solo travelers, and the shared meals and common areas make it easy to meet people if you want to, while there's plenty of space to be on your own.
