Jungle Wellness and Yoga Week Above the Pacific in Costa Rica's Blue Zone

Costa Rica · 7 days · From EUR 1800

A typical day runs on a loose rhythm rather than a packed schedule. Sunrise yoga happens on the deck before breakfast, usually 60 to 90 minutes, depending on which teacher is leading that week. Breakfast is served after, then there's a gap for treatments, the pool, or a walk into Montezuma — about 25 minutes downhill if you don't take the shuttle. Afternoon workshops vary by retreat theme: breathwork, somatic release, journaling, Reiki intros, aerial yoga, fire ceremonies. Sunset yoga or a restorative session closes the day before dinner.

The rooms are spread across the property and all face the view — the balconies looking out over the ocean are the thing guests mention most. They're built with non-toxic materials and organic fabrics, and there's a range of prices rather than one standard category.

Anamaya is unusual in that it's both a retreat venue and a wellness clinic. The therapy menu goes well past the usual spa list: infrared sauna and ice bath, cold plunge, red-light and oxygen therapies, frequency-specific microcurrent (FSM), Rife and scalar energy treatments, plus vitamin, mineral and heavy-metal testing and heart-rate-variability assessments. You can book these as add-ons through the week, and there's usually a practitioner on site.

Yoga teacher trainings run through the season — the 200-hour programmes are three weeks long, led by internationally recognised instructors, with small groups and Yoga Alliance certification at the end. Separately, the resort hosts visiting teachers running their own weeks, so the style of yoga and the workshop content changes with the calendar. A few weeks each year are listed as private retreats, and occasionally two groups share the property.

Off the mat, there's a long list of excursions bookable at reception: surf lessons, canopy tours, horseback riding, nature hikes, ATV tours, snorkeling, scuba diving and sea kayaking. The Montezuma waterfalls are a short trip away, and Santa Teresa and Malpaís are about 25 minutes down the coast. Some evenings there are fire dancers, aerial and silk trapeze acts, live music or kirtan.
