Home › Retreats › Jungle Yoga and Village Life Retreat in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka · 5 days · From USD 235
The retreat is built around a simple daily structure: morning yoga in the open-air shala, a day of exploring or resting, and evening sessions that shift between yin, restorative, and meditation. Classes are led by Freya, a UK-born teacher who draws on vinyasa, yin, and somatic movement—she’ll adapt everything to your level, and the small group size means you get real attention.
What sets this retreat apart is the setting and the people. Polwaththa is an eco-lodge with a genuine commitment to the local area. Your stay supports the Forest Healing Foundation, a reforestation project, and you’ll have the chance to plant a tree yourself. The lodge buys supplies within five kilometers, runs community projects, and encourages guests to connect with locals, helping them practice English.
Days are filled with optional adventures: treks through jungle trails, visits to villages and rice paddies, a swim under a waterfall, and a cooking class with women from the nearest village. You can also just stay at the lodge, read on your balcony, and let the wildlife—monkeys, deer, giant squirrels—come to you.
The food is a highlight, too. Meals are cooked in clay pots over an open hearth, using local vegetables, fruits, and spices. They grow their own coffee, and the staff serves everything with warmth and a smile. It’s simple, wholesome, and genuinely delicious.
If you’re looking for a yoga retreat that feels real, unpolished, and deeply connected to its place, this is it. You’ll leave with more than a tan—you’ll have planted a tree, made new friends, and maybe learned a few words of Sinhalese.
