Kitesurf and Wingfoil Weeks on Montenegro's Velika Plaza

A typical day starts slowly. The wind rarely arrives before early afternoon, so mornings are for breakfast, the pool or a walk into Ulcinj. Courses begin daily at the centre on Velika Plaza, where instructors run theory and kite handling on the sand first, then move into the water once you can control the kite. The teaching zone is reserved for Kiteriders guests, which keeps beginners away from the faster riders out on the main kite area.

Courses are sold by level. The basic beginner course (from €259) covers kite handling and your first time on the board. The intensive beginner course (from €379) adds two extra water sessions focused on starting and riding. The refresher (from €159) and intensive refresher (from €279) are for people returning after a break or who don't yet feel confident riding alone. Private lessons (from €89) are one-to-one and shaped around what you want to work on, whether that is freestyle, free-ride, foiling or big-air. Combos from €395 pair a course with equipment rental for the rest of your stay.

Wingfoiling is also taught here. The beginner's course (from €265) covers theory and material science, wing handling on the beach, safety and self-rescue, handling the wing in the water, a waterstart on a SUP board, your first metres of riding and the technique for taking off on the foil. A refresher course costs from €165 and is adapted to whatever you already can do.

All course equipment is included: kite, board, harness and wetsuit, plus a course handbook to keep. The kit is current Duotone Kiteboarding, and wetsuits and harnesses come from ION. Independent riders can rent kites from €65 a day, boards from €39, harness or wetsuit from €10, or a complete set from €85 a day, with a weekly rate from €339. Storage and beach service, including showers, toilets, launching and landing help and the shuttle, costs from €10 a day.

Safety is handled on the beach: a rescue boat and certified lifeguards are on duty, and beach staff enforce the safety rules and help with launches and landings. The centre is the only VDWS kiteschool at the spot, and rental requires that you can ride upwind (VDWS level 5 or IKO level 3); if that is unclear, they check your level during the free spot briefing that comes with every rental. The centre is open daily from May to September.
