Home › Retreats › Kitesurf Camp in Gülbahçe: Flat-Water Lagoon Coaching on Turkey's Aegean Coast
Turkey · 7 days · From EUR 385
A typical day starts with breakfast at the camp, then a trip to the beach for your kitesurfing session. Lessons are run by certified instructors working to international standards, and the flat lagoon water lets you spend most of your session actually practising instead of getting knocked around. You set your own lesson schedule, so you decide how many sessions to book and when — nothing is locked in before you arrive. Afternoons are free: SUP on the lagoon, skate the ramp at camp, play table tennis, swim in the pool, or take a dolmuş into Izmir to walk the bazaars. Evenings everyone drifts back to camp and decides together where to eat dinner in the village.
The setup suits two very different riders. If you've never touched a kite, the steady thermal wind and flat water give you a controlled environment to learn in — one guest who arrived having never kitesurfed wrote that he was riding on his own in the water by the time he went home. If you already ride, you get the same conditions for working on jumps and freestyle, plus the slider park and a high-wind lagoon that has drawn riders like Ruben Lenten and Aaron Hadlow to the area. The lagoon sits right by the village, so you're not losing hours to transfers — you walk or take a very short ride to the water.
Accommodation is at the camp itself. You can book a shared room sleeping up to four people, with either two double beds or single beds, or take a private room. Every room has its own bathroom and toilet. Breakfast is included daily; lunch and dinner are not, which means you eat your main meals in Gülbahçe at local prices rather than paying hotel rates — the guest reviews mention spending less on extras than expected.
What makes this different from a resort kitesurf package is the combination of the location and the self-service format. You're in a real Turkish village, not an isolated compound, and you choose your own lesson count rather than buying a fixed block. The camp is also part of Denmark's Travel Guarantee Fund (Rejsegarantifonden), which covers your payment if the operator fails. Transfers and flights are on you, but Izmir airport is straightforward — a taxi runs roughly 20-30 EUR — and the team will help you hunt for flights if you email them.
One practical note: this camp is explicitly pitched at mixed groups. If you're coming with a partner or family where only some people kite, the non-kiters can spend the mornings on the beach, at the pool, or visiting Ephesus and Izmir while you're in lessons.
