Home › Retreats › Kong MMA Fight Camp on Koh Rong Island, Cambodia
Cambodia · 7 days
Kong MMA sits on Koh Rong Island, about 25km off the coast of Sihanoukville in Cambodia. The camp is the project of Dave Leduc, a Canadian fighter who was the first Westerner to hold the Lethwei Golden Belt. Construction of the site is nearly finished, with roughly 30 rooms being built for athletes and travellers, and the camp opens in November 2026.
Training covers six disciplines. Kun Khmer is the Khmer striking art, related to Muay Thai but with its own rhythm, footwork and traditions. Lethwei is the Burmese nine-limb art, known for bare-knuckle intensity and a style built on forward pressure. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu runs daily in gi and no-gi classes for all belt levels. MMA sessions bring the clinch, ground game and striking together, and are pitched at everyone from beginners to competitive fighters. Strength and conditioning is functional and sport-specific, using outdoor circuits rather than gym machines.
The daily structure is two sessions: one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Between them there's time to eat, recover and get in the water — the camp is on an island, and the beach is part of the draw. This is a fight camp, not a fitness holiday with a martial arts taster bolted on; people come here to put in rounds, and the coaching comes from a team assembled around a world champion.
The location is the other half of the pitch. Koh Rong has the kind of white sand and clear water that has made Southeast Asia's island training camps popular for two decades, and Kong MMA is positioning itself as Cambodia's first international MMA training centre. The camp describes itself as Cambodia's first world-class combat sports camp, and the news posts on the site argue that Koh Rong is on its way to becoming the region's next fight destination alongside Phuket.
If you're comparing this to the established camps in Thailand, the difference is the passport, the art and the setting: you're training Kun Khmer and Lethwei on their home soil rather than Muay Thai, on an island rather than in a town. Packages are available for all levels, from day passes through week-long camps to full immersion retreats, and flights, accommodation and meals can be bundled in. A 10% pre-opening discount is being offered on all-inclusive packages ahead of the November opening.
