Learn to Surf on Australia's East Coast, in Bali or Portugal with Mojosurf

New South Wales · 18 days · From EUR 393

A typical day at a Mojosurf camp revolves around the surf. You are taken to the best learn-to-surf beaches for the conditions and your ability, with qualified instructors coaching you in the water. Beginners start on foam boards in the whitewash; intermediates work on riding green waves and turning on a hard board. You need to be able to swim 50m unaided to take part, and you are supervised at all times.

What separates Mojosurf from a single surf school is the range. Surf lessons run 1–4 days for people who just want a taste. Surf camps and adventures run 3–18 days and are all-inclusive, combining accommodation, meals and daily surfing. The Surf Academy runs 1, 2 or 3 months for people who want to become actual surfers, and there is a separate instructor training route if you want to end up accredited and teaching.

Each destination has its own character. Spot X in Arrawarra is the beachfront camp, steps from the ocean and 100% focused on surfing. Byron Bay is the iconic surfy, artsy town, with the camp inside the Arts Factory. Canggu is the relaxed Bali base surrounded by rice fields, with breaks for every level. Nusa Lembongan is a tropical island just off Bali with turquoise water and world-class breaks. Kuta Lombok puts you in the heart of town, minutes from cafés, shops and white-sand beaches. Red Island (Pulau Merah) on East Java is remote, next to a village, and one of the last uncrowded surf frontiers in Indonesia. In Portugal, Ericeira and Peniche are the two bases, marketed as the land of endless summer.

Mojosurf has been operating since 1998 and is ASI accredited. The company states that it integrates sustainability considerations through all stages of its activities, respects legally designated protected areas, and avoids damaging the fragile eco-systems it works within. Independent traveller reviews of Mojosurf are published on Tripadvisor.
