Learn to Surf: Portugal, Morocco & Beyond with Poland's BSSURF Surf Camps

BSSURF (Baltic Surf School) started as a surf school in Gdańsk and expanded into overseas camps when their Baltic students needed real waves. The camps are run in destinations the team knows well, with local, certified instructors who live and surf there year-round. That combination — Polish coaches who know the students, plus local instructors who know the break — is what the school leans on.

Portugal camps run on the mainland West Coast and in the Azores, where September trips are scheduled for 2026. Morocco camps start in late October 2026 and run through the winter, using the Atlantic swell at spots like Taghazout and Imsouane. Indonesia (October 2026) and Sri Lanka are the tropical options, and a first Brazilian camp in Ubatuba — between the rainforest and more than a hundred beaches — ran in February 2026. Each location is chosen for the time of year when its waves suit learners, so the same format is used everywhere: daily lessons, board hire included, and accommodation close to the beach.

Lessons are structured by level. Complete beginners work on the basics — paddling, popping up, reading whitewater — in small groups. Intermediate surfers get drills on turning, generating speed, and duck-diving, plus video review to see what they're actually doing. Advanced surfers can be pointed at better breaks and coached on manoeuvres, though this is primarily a learn-to-surf operation rather than a performance camp.

The camps are relaxed rather than regimented. Mornings usually start with breakfast and a surf check, then a two-hour lesson. Lunch is back at the camp, afternoons have a second session or free time, and evenings are dinner plus whatever the group decides — a town trip, a sunset session, or an early night before the next dawn patrol. The school explicitly says safety and comfort come first, and there's a real emphasis on the social side: evening meet-ups, shared meals, and the kind of group that stays in touch afterwards.

Reviews from past guests mention the quality of the coaching, the organisation, and the coaches themselves — Agnieszka and Paulina are named repeatedly. One guest specifically calls out the swim analysis in Morocco as useful; another notes the camp works your muscles even while it clears your head. It's a good sign that the same names keep coming up.
