United States · 1 days
The main teaching space is a large hall, kept separate from the kitchen and dining room so people can spread out — some socialising, some sitting quietly. The kitchen and dining room are laid out for group cooking, serving and cleanup, and a recent group of almost 20 people reported it worked well for exactly that. There are both indoor and outdoor event locations, so a morning session can be in the hall and an afternoon one under the trees.
Sleeping is split across three buildings. The lodge takes 25 guests. The Juniper Tiny House sleeps three more. The Lotus Suite sleeps two to three and is often used by the facilitator as a quiet space away from the group, somewhere to meet or rest. Total capacity is 31 people. Wilderness camping is also available on the property for those who want it.
What separates Lotus Ranch from a standard event venue is the low-EMF setup and the land itself. Wireless access is confined to the hall lounge, so the rest of the stay is spent away from it. The 40 acres are heavily wooded, with meadows and ponds, and the ranch is a certified wildlife habitat through the Texas Conservation Alliance and National Wildlife Federation — water sources, cover, forage and space for animals to raise young are all maintained. Recycling, composting and responsible cleaning products are standard.
Location-wise, it is four miles west of downtown Wimberley and easy to find — two left turns, according to the ranch. Austin and San Antonio are each about 45 minutes away, Houston two and a half to three hours. Jacobs Well and The Blue Hole are a few miles off, both good for a swim. San Marcos is 15 miles east, off I-35.
The ranch is run by a small, open-minded family team. They do not interrupt retreat groups, on the basis that privacy is what makes community bonding and spiritual work possible. If you are organising a retreat, you can plan a permaculture activity with the team in advance — tree planting or wildflower seeding are the examples they give.
