Mid-Week Hiking & Yoga Escape in the Peak District

Mid-Week Hiking & Yoga Escape in the Peak District

Europe · 5 days · From USD 815

The retreat runs from Monday to Friday and is designed around a simple daily rhythm. Mornings start with a yoga class, followed by brunch, and then the day's main event: a guided hike with a qualified mountain guide on the first two full days. The guided walks head into the Derbyshire valleys and up onto the hills for expansive views of the countryside, with a packed lunch eaten en route. The third day is left free for a massage, a visit to Carsington Water for sailing or SUP, or simply resting at the farmhouse.

Afternoons ease into a restorative evening yoga class before a two-course vegetarian or vegan dinner. The balance between exertion and recovery is deliberate—the hiking can be strenuous, as one reviewer noted, but the yoga and the quiet farmhouse setting are there to bring you back down. Guests can choose to join every activity or sit some out, and the hosts are on hand throughout.

Yoga is led by Claire, a former dance teacher of 25 years who retrained as a yoga teacher and has studied Ashtanga at the Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, as well as with authorised teachers across Asia. Her classes blend asana with pranayama and meditation, and she emphasises adapting postures to whoever is in the room, so beginners and experienced practitioners alike are catered for. She has also worked on retreats in Thailand and the Carpathian Mountains, and has been teaching in the UK since 2017.

The farmhouse itself is a recently refurbished Georgian building set on 10 acres, with a large sunroom looking out over the valley, a snug with a wood-burning stove for colder months, and a patio for summer mornings. Rooms are split between the main house and the Woodpecker Barn, with both single and twin options available. The property is rural and secluded, but Derby is around 25–30 minutes away by car, and the nearest station, Cromford, is about 15–20 minutes away.

This is the kind of retreat that suits solo travellers in particular—the group size is capped at 14, and the structure makes it easy to socialise over meals and hikes while still having plenty of quiet time. Reviews consistently mention the quality of the food, the teaching, and the overall sense of calm people leave with.
