Home › Retreats › Month-Long Yoga & Meditation Immersion in the Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu · 28 days · From USD 1448
The retreat covers more than 84 asanas across the four weeks, starting with foundations and building to advanced postures. Each pose gets proper breakdown: alignment, modifications, therapeutic applications, and which energy or emotional effects it produces. You'll work through Hatha and Ashtanga sequences, plus exposure to Vinyasa flow, Iyengar, Kundalini, Shivananda, restorative, and power yoga styles — enough range to understand how different lineages approach the same body.
Pranayama gets serious attention here. The curriculum includes 25+ techniques: Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril), Kapalbhati (frontal brain cleansing), Bhastrika (bellows breath), Ujjayi, Sheetali, Bhramari, and their variations. You'll learn which techniques heat or cool the body, which calm the nervous system, and how to sequence them with asana and meditation for different effects.
The meditation training covers several distinct styles. Vipassana (insight meditation in the Buddhist tradition), So-Ham and breath-focused techniques, mindfulness practice, guided meditation, and what Prakash calls "soul meditation" — a technique he developed during extended practice on the banks of the Ganges. You'll have enough exposure to find which approach actually works for your mind, rather than assuming one size fits all.
Philosophy classes work through the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita systematically: the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga, the five sheaths (koshas), the chakra system and nadis, the relationship between consciousness and matter in Samkhya philosophy. It's taught as a framework for understanding the practices, not as doctrine to memorise.
The cleansing practices (shatkarma) include nasal washing (neti), digestive tract cleansing (dhauti), stomach cleansing (nauli), colon cleansing (basti), frontal brain cleansing (kapalbhati), and eye cleansing through candle-gazing (tratak). You'll learn the techniques, when to use them, and when to avoid them.
Yoga Nidra sessions teach systematic relaxation — the conscious sleep state where actual mental and physical recovery happens. Chakra purification practices use simple meditation and pranayama to work through the seven energy centres. Mantra chanting is woven throughout, used practically for focus and clearing mental static rather than as spiritual performance.
