Month-Long Yoga & Meditation Immersion in the Nepali Himalayas

Month-Long Yoga & Meditation Immersion in the Nepali Himalayas

Kathmandu · 28 days · From USD 1448

The month is structured to take you from wherever you are — complete beginner or experienced practitioner — through a comprehensive yoga education. The first portion focuses on asana work, starting with basics and building to intermediate and advanced poses. Prakash and his team demonstrate, adjust, and explain the therapeutic applications of each posture. You'll learn sequences you can actually take home and practice on your own.

Pranayama gets serious attention here. The curriculum covers 25 different breathing techniques, from simple nostril cleansing to Kapalbhati (the frontal brain cleansing breath that makes you look slightly unhinged to onlookers but leaves you feeling remarkably clear). You'll learn when to use each technique, what the contraindications are, and how breathing practice connects to the asana and meditation work.

Meditation is woven throughout the month, not bolted on at the end. You'll work through Buddha-style Vipassana, mindfulness practice, guided meditation, breathing meditation, and Prakash's own soul meditation technique — something he developed while sitting by the Ganges at Haridwar. The philosophy sessions cover Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, the chakra system, the koshas (sheaths of existence), and Ashtanga yoga's eight limbs.

There's also a practical component that many Western yoga trainings skip: Shatkarma, the six yogic cleansing practices. You'll learn nasal cleansing (neti), digestive tract cleansing (dhauti), stomach cleansing (nauli), and the others. Some of these are uncomfortable to learn but genuinely useful for long-term practice.

Sundays are off. Most guests use the day to explore Kathmandu or the surrounding area — the team can help arrange trips if you want, though most people sort themselves out. The retreat is 10km from Tribhuvan International Airport and about 5km from Thamel, the tourist district, so you're close enough to get into the city easily but far enough to feel removed from it.

The teaching style is traditional but not dogmatic. Prakash trained in multiple lineages — Ashtanga, Hatha, Iyengar, Shivananda, Kundalini, Vinyasa — and draws on all of them. The goal isn't to produce cookie-cutter yoga teachers but to give you a genuine understanding of what yoga is and how to practice it.
