Mountain Yoga & Meditation Retreat in the Chiemgau Alps

Bavaria · 7 days · From USD 580

The retreat base is in the Chiemgau, a region of rolling hills, forests, and alpine peaks in southern Bavaria, close to the Austrian border. The centre is small, and the programme is kept simple: yoga, meditation, walking, and meals. There's no pressure to join every session, but most people do because the daily rhythm is what makes the week work.

A typical day starts with pranayama or a gentle yoga class before breakfast. After eating, you head out for a hike — two to four hours depending on the group and the weather. In summer, the trails go through wildflower meadows and up to viewpoints; in winter, they're often snow walks on cleared paths. After lunch, there's free time for reading, a sauna, or a nap, then an afternoon yoga session (sometimes restorative, sometimes more active) and a guided meditation before dinner. Evenings are quiet — tea, conversation, or early nights.

What sets this apart from a generic yoga holiday is the setting and the silence. The Chiemgau is not a resort area; it's farmland and mountain villages. You'll hear cowbells, not traffic. The centre runs silent retreat options on some dates, which means no talking from after the evening session until after breakfast the next morning. If you've never done that, it's harder than it sounds and often the part people remember most.

The instructors are trained in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga and guided meditation, and they lead the hikes themselves. They know the local trails and adjust routes based on fitness levels in the group. The company has been running these programmes for years, and the same core team returns season after season.

Yoga is suitable for beginners and intermediate practitioners. You don't need to be flexible or experienced — the classes are taught with options for different levels. The hiking is moderate: expect uneven ground, some uphill sections, and 2–4 hours of walking. If you have knee or hip issues, let the team know in advance so they can suggest easier routes.
