Muay Thai and Recovery Retreat in Historic Phitsanulok, Thailand

Thailand · 14 days · From EUR 927

A typical day starts at 07:00 with running, then a Muay Thai and Western boxing session at 08:00 — or a CrossFit, hiking or swimming alternative. Breakfast is at 09:00. Late morning and early afternoon are free: sauna, ice bath, a swim, or a Thai massage for an extra charge. At 15:30 there is jogging, skipping or shadow boxing, then a second Muay Thai and boxing session at 16:00. Dinner is at 18:00, and the evening is yours — the night market, meditation, or just sitting outside.

Technique classes cover pad work, bag work and partner drills, and afternoon sessions focus on clinching and sparring, followed by cool-downs and deep stretching. Sessions run in the gym or outdoors by the river. Each session ends with an optional "Ab Blast", a five-to-ten-minute core workout. You also learn the Wai Kru / Ram Muay, the ceremonial dance performed before a fight to honour the teacher and opponent.

What separates this from a standard Thai fight camp is the recovery and the culture. Sauna and ice bath access is unlimited and included, not an add-on. The week has fixed challenges: on Tuesday mornings a river run ends with Muay Thai at a historic palace site, and on Friday mornings the group hikes to a sacred temple and trains in traditional techniques. Guests also offer gifts to local monks at Wat Yai Temple and receive their blessings.

The coaching team, including Kru Jay, has trained fighters up to Olympic level. Yoga is taught by Kru Munta Preedasitthichok, who has 14 years of practice and 10 years of teaching, is certified in traditional Hatha Yoga from Rishikesh in India, and has studied Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization at the Rehabilitation Prague School. Her classes focus on functional movement, core stability and injury prevention, including posture correction for office workers.

Phitsanulok itself is the "Gateway to Northern Thailand" and was the second capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom. The Nan River runs through the city, Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat holds a golden Buddha statue, and the Phitsanulok Folk Museum covers local history. National parks including Phu Hin Rong Kla and Kaeng Chet Khwae are nearby. The camp is a 15–25 minute drive from Phitsanulok Airport.
