Muay Thai, BJJ & MMA Fight Camp in Canggu, Bali

Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 14

A typical day starts with a morning Muay Thai or boxing class, often held before the heat properly sets in. Sessions run around 60 to 90 minutes and are built around pad work, bag work and technique drills, with coaches circulating to correct details. If you've never thrown a punch, you'll be paired with someone who'll walk you through stance and basics; if you're experienced, the pad holders will push the pace and the combinations.

Grappling runs later in the day — gi BJJ, no-gi, and wrestling-heavy sessions. The grappling room is air-conditioned, which matters more than it sounds in Bali. Instructors include the Leone brothers, Andrew and Anthony, both well known in the Asian BJJ and MMA scene, and classes are usually busy enough that there's a wide mix of belts and body types to work with. MMA classes combine striking and grappling, with separate beginner and advanced/sparring sessions, and there's a strength and conditioning programme plus a mobility programme if you want to round out the week.

What separates Bali MMA from a lot of gyms in the area is the roster of people training there. It has a long history of producing and hosting professional fighters competing across Asia, and the gym was described by ONE Championship as one of the premier mixed martial arts gyms in Asia. That means the level in the room is high, but reviewers consistently say it isn't intimidating — coaches correct you, people ask questions, and nobody's rolling with an ego.

The facility itself is well maintained. Mats are sanitised after every class, the cage and ring are full size, and there's a separate weight room if you'd rather lift than fight. After a hard session you can use the ice bath and sauna, and there are showers on site. The gym also runs a shop selling its own clothing line, and hosts Canggu Fight Night events at nearby venues — the next one, Canggu Fight Night 40, is scheduled for 29 August at Atlas Super Club.

Length of stay is entirely up to you. Some people come for a single drop-in class, others book a month and train twice a day. The gym is open Monday to Friday 6am to 10pm and weekends 7am to 6pm, so there's almost always a session that fits around whatever else you're doing in Canggu.
