Muay Thai & Fitness Retreat in Baja California Sur with Pro Fighter Mike Rambo

California · 7 days · From EUR 645

Combat 360X has been running since 2006, and the retreat follows the same format the business has used for close to twenty years: small groups, personal coaching, and a mix of martial arts and general fitness work. The stated group average is six people, which is the single biggest thing that separates this from a larger fight camp. With that few people, Mike can watch every round of every session and adjust what is taught on the day rather than sticking to a fixed curriculum.

A typical day is built around three blocks. The first is usually strength and conditioning — hill sprints on the surrounding terrain, kettlebells, bodyweight circuits, or work specifically aimed at HYROX-style events if that is what you have signed up for. The middle block is the technical one: Muay Thai pad work and clinch, or BJJ drilling depending on the day and who is there. The late block is either open mat, sparring if you want it, or a one-on-one slot with Mike to work on something specific to you. Evenings are free — the camp is a 40-minute drive from La Paz, so most people stay on site, eat together, and get an early night.

Mike Saint Claire has been a professional fighter since 2006 and has won multiple Muay Thai stadium titles in Thailand. He holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has competed and coached across Asia, Europe and North America. He leads sessions himself and trains alongside guests, so you spend the week in the same rounds as your coach rather than watching him demonstrate and step off the mat.

The location is Baja California Sur, on an off-grid stretch outside La Paz. The Sea of Cortez is close by, the desert runs inland, and the training area is outdoors — open-sided rather than air-conditioned. It is hot for much of the year, which is worth planning around if you are coming from a cooler climate. The relative isolation is part of the point: there is not much to do except train, eat and rest, which is exactly why people who come for a specific goal tend to get somewhere with it.

This is a good fit if you want a coach's actual attention for a week rather than a place on a large class. It is a poor fit if you want a spa, a pool, a bar scene or an all-inclusive resort. The programme works for complete beginners — the site is explicit about that — and it also works for amateur fighters and athletes prepping for a competition, because the coaching scales both ways.
