Muay Thai Retreat in Thailand's Isaan: 10 Days of Twice-Daily Training, Food and Culture

Thailand · 10 days · From EUR 1350

A typical day starts at 07:30 with a two-hour morning session covering strength, conditioning and mobility — described as demanding but not brutal. Brunch is at 10:00, then 11:30 is recovery: a Thai massage or time by the pool at the partner resort. Afternoons from 13:00 are either guided trips to mountain temples and local markets or free time. The second session runs 17:00–18:30 and is pure Muay Thai: technique, then bag work, pad work and partner drills. Dinner at 19:30 is eaten together.

Training is six days a week, twice daily, with a maximum of two students per trainer. Beginners are explicitly welcome — the FAQ says the training is adapted to your level in technique, strength and endurance, and the afternoon Muay Thai session is marked as suitable for beginners. If you already compete, that's accommodated too. You can also join the gym's regular group sessions on top of your own if you want more rounds.

What separates this from a standard Thai fight camp is the setting. Nong Bua Lam Phu is not a resort town. The team takes you to the food stalls where the trainers themselves eat and to places that aren't in guidebooks. The gym is a Muay Thai family rather than a fitness chain, run by its owner and long-standing trainers.

The retreat runs from 10 days upward, year-round, with start dates by arrangement. A 20-day combination is also sold, and a separate training camp option exists for people staying weeks or months — that one includes private-level training, a single room, airport transfer and a personal contact, with meal prep, scooter, massages and guiding bookable on top.

Flights aren't included, but Pascal will help plan the route free of charge over WhatsApp. The usual options from Frankfurt are Thai Airways via Bangkok (roughly 19–20 hours, from about €800–900 return), Air India via Delhi (22–24 hours, from about €650–800) or Emirates/Etihad via Dubai or Abu Dhabi (20–22 hours, from about €800–950). November to February is the cool dry season and the most popular window; March to May is very hot, with sessions moved to early morning and late afternoon; June to October is rainy season with short heavy showers, green countryside and often cheaper flights. Training is under cover, so weather doesn't cancel sessions.
