Thailand · 7 days · From EUR 250
A typical day is built around two training blocks. The morning session is the longer, harder one: Wai Khru and a warm-up run, then pad work with the trainers, bag rounds, clinch work, and technique drilling, finishing with conditioning and stretching. The afternoon session is shorter, usually focused on technique, pad work, and sparring, and it's often followed by skipping, abdominal work, and a stretch-down. Sundays are rest days.
What makes this camp different from a Phuket tourist gym is that Rawai Muay Thai is a working fight camp. The fighters who live on site train alongside paying guests, so you're in the same room as people who actually compete. If you want to fight, the trainers will tell you honestly when you're ready, and they'll match you with a bout — several guests have come out to fight in Thailand after training here, including a Belgian fighter profiled by the camp. If you don't want to fight, no one pressures you; plenty of guests train purely for fitness and never set foot in the ring.
The trainers are Thai, mostly from the Surat Thani and Krabi provinces, with decades of ring experience between them. Pad work is the core of what you pay for — you'll get held, corrected, and pushed one-on-one, several rounds per session. Because group sizes vary with the season, you'll usually get more individual attention than you would at a large Phuket fitness gym.
The camp also runs a traditional Chinese medicine clinic (Herbitage Clinic) on site, which offers acupuncture, herbal treatments, and injury care for fighters and guests. That's genuinely useful when you're training twice a day and your shins and shoulders are complaining. Khao Lak itself is a low-rise beach town — the camp can point you to beaches, waterfalls in Khao Sok National Park, and the local market, and there are dive shops and island trips nearby for rest days. The camp offers its site in French, German, Italian, and Spanish in addition to English, and has a long history of European guests, particularly French and German fighters.
