New Zealand Surf Coaching Camps for Intermediate and Advanced Surfers

New Zealand Surf Coaching Camps for Intermediate and Advanced Surfers

New Zealand · 7 days

The coaching is the point here. Andrew has spent five years building methods aimed at late-starting beginners, intermediate surfers and experienced surfers who have plateaued. Rather than paddling out and hoping, you work on the specific things holding your surfing back. On the Raglan camp, one guest reported learning new corrective techniques from day one and said the changes were still taking hold two weeks after returning.

Each camp is designed for a stated level, from Level 2 to Level 4. Complete beginners cannot join these camps directly; they need to do the beginner surf course in Raglan first and put in some practice time before moving up to a Level 2 camp or trip. You can check your level on the UP Surf Coaching website before booking.

Locations vary. Raglan is the base for the weekly beginner courses and the intermediate coaching camp. The Christchurch/Kaikoura camp is for Level 3 and 4 surfers, with dates still to be confirmed. The Aotearoa 'Strike Missions' are for Level 2-4 surfers and are organised around wherever the best waves are at the time; you register for alerts rather than booking a fixed date.

Overseas, the Indonesia trip in June 2027 is for Level 3-4 surfers and goes off the beaten track to a spot described as 'secret', with high-quality waves suited to that level. The Japan camp in September and October 2025 is for Level 2-3 novice and intermediate surfers. Both are designed to escape the New Zealand winter.

Andrew organises accommodation for the camps and makes sure everyone is looked after, according to a guest review from the Raglan intermediate camp. The days are structured but the atmosphere is relaxed, and you spend the week with other surfers at a similar level and a coach who understands where you are at.
