Ocean and Mountain Wellness: A 7-Day Surf and Yoga Escape in Tamraght

Morocco · 7 days · From USD 462

The days here have a simple rhythm. Mornings start with breakfast — Moroccan bread, amlou (almond and argan oil paste), honey, eggs, and fruit — then it's off to the beach for a surf lesson. The instructors are local and know the breaks around Tamraght and Taghazout well: Banana Point, Devil's Rock, and Crocodile Beach are all within walking distance. Boards and wetsuits are included, and you can also grab a board anytime outside the lessons to practise on your own.

After surfing, there's usually free time. This is where the hostel comes into its own. The rooftop terrace has ocean views and is the social hub — people read, work on laptops, or just watch the sunset. There's an ice bath for recovery, which sounds brutal but feels great after a session in the water. Yoga runs twice a day: a morning flow to wake up and an evening restorative class to unwind. The teacher, Luna Chommack, is yoga-alliance certified and has led retreats across Europe and North Africa. Her classes mix Hatha and Vinyasa, with some breathwork and meditation woven in.

Two evenings stand out. One is a cultural dinner night with Moroccan food, and the other is the closing dinner with live music. In between, there's a day trip to Paradise Valley — a series of natural rock pools and waterfalls about an hour away, good for swimming and cliff jumping — and a surf trip to Timlalin sand dunes, which are a bit of a novelty because you're surfing waves that break over a sandbar rather than reef or rock. The exact schedule shifts with the surf forecast, but the structure stays the same: surf, yoga, food, and downtime.

The food deserves its own mention. Lunches are light and healthy — salads, grilled fish or chicken, couscous dishes — and dinners mix Moroccan classics like tagine with international home cooking. They cater well to vegetarians and vegans, and gluten-free options are available if you ask. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but it's fresh, filling, and made with local ingredients.

Tamraght itself is small but has everything you need: a few cafes, small shops, and an ATM. Taghazout is a five-minute taxi ride away if you want more restaurants and nightlife. The hostel provides a lot of the extras you'd normally have to organise yourself, including airport pickup from Agadir (about 45 minutes away) and parking if you have a car.
