Off-Grid Farm & Nature Wellness Retreat in Ghana's Volta Region

Europe · 7 days · From USD 517

Akadi Farms is a real, working permaculture farm tucked into the rolling green hills of Ghana's Volta Region. This isn't a wellness resort with scheduled spa treatments; it's a place where the retreat is woven into the daily life of the land. You're invited to participate as little or as much as you like — there's no mandatory activity list, just a gentle structure of farm work, cooking, and exploration that you can opt into.

A typical day might start with birdsong and fresh air, followed by a shared breakfast. Mornings could be spent helping with farm tasks like planting, weeding, or feeding the animals — simple, repetitive work that's surprisingly meditative. Afternoons are often free for excursions: a guided hike to Wli Waterfalls (the highest in West Africa), a climb up Mount Afadja (Ghana's tallest peak), or a visit to a local market or kente-weaving village. Back on the farm, you might join a cooking session to learn how to make banku or fufu with traditional soups.

What makes this retreat special is its grounding in place and purpose. Sena Affram, the host, grew up in Ghana and is passionate about sustainable agriculture. She's built Akadi Farms as a space where guests can reconnect with the earth and with themselves. The retreat is as much about cultural exchange as it is about relaxation — you'll get a genuine taste of rural Ghanaian life, from the rhythms of the farm to the stories and traditions of the Ewe people.

The accommodation reflects this ethos. You can choose between a simple, private one-bedroom house built into the landscape, or a tent set up on the farm, both offering a back-to-nature experience with solar lighting and natural ventilation. There's no air conditioning and limited phone signal, which is exactly the point — it forces a genuine disconnection. But you'll find the essentials: comfortable beds, clean bedding, shared meals, and the warmest of welcomes. By the end of your week, you'll have gained more than just a tan — you'll have gained a new perspective on what it means to live slowly and purposefully.
