Home › Retreats › Off-Grid Mountain Reset for Men: Hiking, Breathwork & Firelit Nights in Spain
Valencia · 4 days · From EUR 999
Casa Rico sits directly below Puig Campana, one of the highest mountains in the area, and the hiking trails start literally in the garden. The house was built by neighbours over 60 years ago and still has its original character: warm, deliberately plain rooms, a shared living room with a small kitchenette, a wood stove for colder months, and stone walls that keep it cool in summer. Power, water, heating and internet are all arranged on-site — it's off-grid, and that's part of what you're there for.
The programme is genuinely one-to-one. Raymond has run private and small-group retreats for seven years and says his main skill is working out quickly what someone actually needs, then building the days around it. A typical stay includes guided mountain hikes, breathwork sessions (some in the yurt, some outside at sunset or at night), physical work like chopping wood or working out, and an emotional release or "letting go" session in the late afternoon. Evenings often end around a fire with dinner cooked together — sometimes a barbecue, sometimes the wood-fired oven, sometimes a pot over the flames.
What makes this different from a standard men's retreat is the setup rather than the activities. You're not joining a group of twelve; you're the only guest, living alongside Raymond, Femke and their two children for three nights. You eat with the family or cook for yourself whenever you feel like it, using ingredients from local markets and nearby shops. There's a guest kitchen and an outdoor kitchen, and the food is often grown within 50 metres of where you're standing. Guests consistently mention the family warmth, the views and the sheer distance from city life as the things that stuck.
There's a longer option if four days isn't enough. You can upgrade to a five-day mountain journey: it starts at Casa Rico, then you hike three stages through the mountains, sleeping in two other village accommodations along the way before returning to the finca on the last day. That version is more intense, gives you more time with Raymond, and costs €1,999 instead of €999.
Getting there is straightforward. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC) is about 50 minutes away. Taxis from the airport run around €75, or the family can arrange a pickup with a trusted friend for €55–60. If you drive yourself, be aware the last stretch goes uphill into the mountains — directions are provided. Check-in is from 1pm on day one, check-out 1pm on the last day, and they'll shift those times if your flights need it.
The weather swings properly by season: roughly 16°C in January–March, 23°C in April–June and September–December, and up to 30°C in July–August. Bring swimwear, good walking shoes, and in winter both cool clothes for the day and warm layers for the evening. Towels and bedwear are provided.
