Overwater Yoga & Wellness Week at a Maldives Island Retreat

Overwater Yoga & Wellness Week at a Maldives Island Retreat

Maldives · 7 days

A typical day starts with a class in the overwater pavilion, usually yoga or meditation, before breakfast. The pavilion sits above the lagoon and is open to the breeze, so sessions run early while it is still cool. Classes are complimentary and change daily — expect a mix of yoga styles, guided meditation and general fitness sessions. Private classes can be arranged if you want one-to-one instruction.

The fitness side is more substantial than most island resorts. There is a fully equipped gym with enough space to train properly, plus a padel court, and the team runs personalised fitness programmes built around functional training for guests who want something structured. If you are coming for the wellness programme rather than just a beach week, ask for the COMO Shambhala Wellness Experience — a set programme that combines mindful movement, therapeutic treatments and rest, aimed at active guests or anyone starting to take their training and recovery more seriously.

The COMO Shambhala Retreat is the centre of it. It has eight overwater treatment rooms looking out towards open water, a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi, and relaxation lounges. The treatment menu runs from massages and facials to body scrubs and longer holistic therapies, all using COMO Shambhala products. Signature treatments are built around detox and recovery. For something more involved, the kitchen runs a four-day, three-night digestive reset cleanse with cold-pressed juices, warm broths and herbal teas.

The visiting practitioner programme is what sets certain weeks apart. From 21 September to 5 October, physiotherapist and osteopath Martina Wegscheider is on the island, which is a good fit if you want hands-on work on injuries or long-standing tension alongside your training. From 1 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, Kimberly Rose Kneier focuses on balance and restoration. Dr Ashish Kumar Tripathi is in residence from 10 January to 15 February 2027, blending Eastern and Western healing approaches.

Food comes from COMO Shambhala Kitchen: health-focused cooking built on pure ingredients in combinations designed to be nutritionally useful rather than just indulgent. Menus lean on fish, vegetables, whole grains, fresh juices and lighter cooking, though the resort kitchens also cook more conventional dishes if you want them. Under Simply COMO, meals are part of the stay.

The island itself is small, green and quiet, with white sand and shallow turquoise lagoon on one side and the reef drop-off on the other. Diving and snorkelling on the Thaa Atoll reefs, sailing, fishing and watersports fill the hours between classes. It is a long way from anywhere, which is exactly the point — you are on one island with one resort and nothing else competing for your attention.
