Phuket Surf Camp at Kata Beach: All-Inclusive Surf Coaching and Stay

A typical camp day has two coached surf sessions of 1.5 hours each. The morning session is timed to catch the calmest conditions at Kata Beach. You're either one-on-one with an instructor or in a group of no more than two. The afternoon session builds on what you did in the morning, with the same instructor and the same board. Between sessions, the middle of the day is free — you can eat nearby, rest in your room, or walk to the beach. Evenings are open; the SSS Kata Bar & Café is next door and gives surf students 25% off.

The accommodation is right next to the SSS Phuket shop at Kata Beach, so you're metres from the waves before and after every session. Every room has a private ensuite bathroom, and some have a balcony with either a beach view or a street view, depending on availability and package. You can book a private room if you're travelling solo, or share if you're with friends. A 7-Eleven is around the corner for anything you need during your stay.

What separates this camp from a lot of surf schools is the coaching ratio. It's either a private coach or a maximum of one other student — never a big class. The instructors are an in-house team, not seasonal hires, and they teach in English and Thai. The camp also has its own live cam over the break at Kata Beach, which the instructors use to check real conditions each morning and time your sessions for the best window. That's a piece of equipment most surf schools at Kata don't have.

SSS Phuket has been at Kata Beach since 2008 and runs scuba diving, freediving and SUP alongside surfing. That means you can add a dive trip or a freediving course before or after your camp without changing operators.
