Private 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training by the Beach in San Diego

Each day runs from about 9am to 6:45pm at the studio, broken up by yoga classes, meditation, coursework, and a lunch break. The schedule moves between physical practice and academic study. Mornings often start with coursework, then a yoga class, then meditation. Afternoons mix more study with a second yoga class later in the day. You'll also observe classes at the studio, getting a behind-the-scenes look at how a successful San Diego yoga business runs.

The curriculum meets Yoga Alliance standards across five areas: techniques, training and practice; teaching methodology; anatomy and physiology; philosophy, lifestyle and ethics; and the business of yoga. You'll also spend 15 hours on the practical side of being a teacher—interviewing, resume writing, insurance, permitting, and how to set up as an independent contractor. The practicum hours give you a chance to teach with feedback, both giving and receiving.

Shawna Bebbling leads the training. She runs two yoga studios in California plus a retreat center in Joshua Tree, created the San Diego Yoga Festival, and has written several books. She's also a former college professor, which shows in how she structures the material. Everything is laid out clearly, and she adapts to how you learn best.

Imperial Beach itself is part of the experience. It's a low-key surf town with a pier, Mexican food, and locals who wave on the street. San Diego County has more yoga per square mile than anywhere else in the US, so you're in the middle of a strong yoga community. Your accommodation is literally on the sand, so downtime means walking out your door onto the beach.
