Rainforest Yoga and Sustainable Living Retreat on Costa Rica's Wild Pacific Coast

Costa Rica · 7 days

The Yoga Farm runs on permaculture design principles, and that shapes nearly everything about a stay here. Electricity is a mix of grid-tied solar and renewably sourced grid power. Water is collected from rain and natural springs on the property. The gardens and fruit trees increasingly feed the kitchen. The buildings use natural and innovative materials, laid out so that the architecture doesn't wall you off from the rainforest and ocean views surrounding the property.

Yoga classes run daily with resident instructors. Sessions are guided rather than self-practice, and they're part of the daily structure alongside three healthy, primarily vegetarian meals. Between classes and meals, time is yours — read, walk, swim, watch wildlife, or help out with farm projects if that appeals. The vibe is communal but not compulsory; you can be as social or as private as you like.

The location is the southernmost stretch of Costa Rica's Pacific coast, in a region regarded as one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet. Rainforest sits right up against the property and the ocean is in open view. Wildlife sightings are a normal part of the day rather than an excursion you book.

This is a rustic centre, and it's worth being honest about what that means: simple accommodation, shared rhythms, and a working sustainable-living project rather than a hotel with a yoga studio attached. If you want a retreat where everything is done for you, this isn't it. If you want to eat well, practise daily, and live lightly in a genuinely wild corner of Costa Rica among a mix of people who chose to be there, it's hard to beat.

December through June is the busy season, when the farm functions as a full community — diverse people living, working and playing together. Outside those months it's calmer. Whichever you choose, the pattern of daily yoga, shared meals and free time holds.
