Ranch Wellness Retreat with Horse Riding, Hiking and Two Spas in British Columbia

British Columbia · 7 days

Days at Echo Valley start with breakfast in the ranch dining room, where the chef cooks from a menu that changes with what's ready in the greenhouse. After that you pick your activity. The horsemanship programme pairs you with a horse and a wrangler — the ranch describes it as a chance to feel the horse's heartbeat and build a connection, and it's suitable for people who have never ridden. Guided mountain biking and e-biking tours head out on trails through the Fraser Canyon area. Hiking tours range from gentle forest walks to longer day trips. Fly-fishing is on offer for anyone who wants to stand in a river and cast.

Yoga and meditation sessions are part of the activity list, held at the ranch. The two spas are the other half of the day. The Baan Thai Spa uses traditional Thai therapies — think stretching, pressure work and herbal compresses — while the Western Spa does facials, massages and body treatments. You can book either, or both, depending on what you've done that morning.

Evenings often end around a campfire, with s'mores provided. The ranch is in a dark-sky area, so stargazing from your cabin deck is a real activity, not a marketing line. The dining room serves dinner nightly, and the open kitchen means you can watch the chef work.

What makes this different from a standard wellness resort is the land itself. The ranch sits on the traditional territory of the High Bar First Nation, and the property has an artist in residence, Michael Blackstock, who developed the peer-reviewed theory of Blue Ecology — an Indigenous water-first approach to the environment. His artwork is installed in the Lookout Lodge, including wood-carved murals by two other Indigenous artists on the north and west walls. The ranch also holds a Gold Member rating from the Equestrian Travel Association.

Accommodation is in rooms and cabins across the property, including the Lookout Lodge. Each room has its own character, and the ranch's team helps match guests to the right one depending on whether they're travelling alone, as a couple, with family or with a group. The ranch is open year-round, but the activity list is fullest from May to October.
