Home › Retreats › SALTY Nicaragua: A Luxury Fitness Week with Sweat, Surf & Infinity Pools
Nicaragua · 8 days · From EUR 2249
Days are built around two things: training and hanging out. You wake up, walk to the yoga deck for a sunrise session while the light comes over the bay, then eat breakfast at the villa. The main workout of the day happens mid-morning — sometimes in the weight room, sometimes on the beach, sometimes as poolside Pilates. The format changes daily so nobody gets bored or overtrained in the same pattern. After lunch, there's usually an excursion or free time: surf lessons at the beginner-friendly break below the villa, a hike into the hills, a horseback ride, or a trip to colonial Granada.
A few days stand out. One is the SALTY Olympics — team relays, pool games, and trophies, treated exactly as seriously as it sounds (not very, but with trash talk). Another is the catamaran day: you sail out on the Pacific, stop to swim, eat snacks, and watch the sunset from the water. Sunday Funday is the town's famous all-afternoon pool-hopping event, and the group does it together. There's also a choose-your-own-adventure day where you can hike, ride, surf, visit the spa, or do nothing at all.
What makes this different from a typical fitness retreat is the setting. The villa property — Orquidea del Sur — has three infinity pools facing the Pacific, a weight room with proper squat racks, a spa, a cold plunge, and pool tables. You're a short drive from the bars and restaurants of San Juan del Sur, but far enough up the hill that you can actually sleep. The training spaces are spread across the property: yoga deck, weight room, pool deck, and the sandy beach below for conditioning sessions.
The coaching is led by the SALTY team, whose whole approach is 'make fun of wellness' — meaning they take the training seriously but not themselves. Sessions are scalable, so beginners and regular gym-goers can work side by side. If you've never surfed, the local instructors take you to gentle breaks; if you have, there are bigger waves nearby.
Nicaragua itself is still the under-visited one in Central America. You get Costa Rica's landscapes and waves without the crowds or the prices. The sunsets over the bay look staged, the town wakes up slowly and stays up late, and the whole week feels like a group trip with a training habit rather than a boot camp with a schedule.
