United States · 7 days · From USD 1207
This retreat is run by Brian and Shelly Hansen, who have owned and operated their bed and breakfast near Zion National Park for years. Brian is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of experience working with families, and he has a genuine love for the land — he tends the orchard and gardens himself. The couple recently returned from a year-long humanitarian mission in Africa, and their warmth and hospitality show in every detail of the property.
What makes this retreat different is the self-guided format. Instead of a packed itinerary, you wake up each morning and decide what to do. The sample schedule offers daily suggestions: one day is dedicated to Zion National Park, another to Bryce Canyon, and another to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. On day four, Brian takes you on a guided hike through some of the region's most spectacular scenery, where you'll learn about the local geology, plants, and wildlife — including a fun stop swinging on a rope over the Virgin River.
The Hansens are flexible and accommodating. They'll pack you a picnic lunch for your day trips, and they're happy to help you plan your outings based on your fitness level and interests. One evening, they host a pow wow in their tipi, where you'll learn about Native American culture and how to start a fire with a bow drill. There's also a large swim spa under the stars — perfect after a long day of hiking.
Accommodation is in the spacious bed and breakfast home, with each private room having its own entrance and bathroom. The property also features a pickleball court, a tree house, and plenty of quiet corners to relax. While there's no structured daily fitness or yoga program, there's everything you need for an active week — or a deeply restful one. This is a great fit for solo travelers, couples, or friends who want to explore Southern Utah's national parks at their own pace in a comfortable home base.
