Spiritual Yoga and Meditation Retreat in Kathmandu's Sacred Valley

Spiritual Yoga and Meditation Retreat in Kathmandu's Sacred Valley

Kathmandu · 8 days · From USD 1809

The structure is simple: one main practice block each morning, one excursion or workshop in the day, and evenings free. You'll visit Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple), the great Boudhanath Stupa with its all-day circumambulation, and Pashupatinath, the burning ghats on the Bagmati River. These aren't drive-by photo stops—the retreat gives you time to sit, observe the rituals, and ask questions about what you're seeing.

Between the temple visits, Shobhit leads philosophy sessions and Kayla guides meditation and self-inquiry workshops. The Sanskrit names of the retreat—Hridaya, Bhav, Sangha—translate to heart, devotion, and community, and that's the tone: less about peak physical performance, more about internal work and connection. There's also an optional Ayurvedic treatment at the center, and plenty of unstructured hours to explore Kathmandu's courtyards and markets on your own.

Nepal Yoga Home itself is a purpose-built ashram, run on traditional lines with a sattvic ethos—simple, clean, and quiet. It's not a luxury hotel, and it's not trying to be. The food is daily vegetarian meals prepared in-house, inspired by Ayurveda. The atmosphere is communal: meals are shared, and most guests eat together and talk about what they practiced or saw that day.

The two facilitators split the teaching. Kayla Gonzlez is a Milwaukee-based yoga and meditation teacher with an RYT-800 certification, trained at Empower Yoga Milwaukee, School Yoga Institute, and Maharishi Yogapeeth. She guides the meditation, mantra, and self-inquiry sessions. Shobhit Ghanshyala, founder of Swadharma Yogshala, studied Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga and draws on years of practice in Rishikesh and Trivandrum; he leads the asana and philosophy work. Guests consistently rate the teaching five stars, with several reviews mentioning Kayla by name for her care and attention to detail.
