Surf Camp Sardinia: 7-Night Surf House Stay with Daily Lessons in Buggerru

The day-to-day rhythm depends on the swell, which is the point. In the morning you have breakfast at the Surf House, then head out with the school to whichever spot is working — the coast here faces the right direction for a range of conditions, so there's usually somewhere surfable. Lessons run in small groups and are pitched at your level, from complete beginner to advanced. You're back by early afternoon, which leaves the rest of the day for the beach, a walk into town, or sitting in the garden.

Lessons are organised progressively across the week. Beginners work on the basics — paddling, catching whitewater, standing up, falling safely. Intermediates work on take-off timing and managing waves. Advanced and pro-level surfers get pushed on technique, more technical lines, and bigger or faster conditions. The same instructors see you across the week, so they know what you were working on yesterday.

Buggerru sits in the Sulcis Iglesiente region, and the coastline around it is genuinely dramatic — cliffs, small coves, open sea. Cala Domestica Bay is a few kilometres away and is one of the best beaches on this stretch of coast. Inland at Fluminimaggiore there's the Punic-Roman Temple of Antas and the Su Mannau cave system, both worth a half-day if you want a break from the water. The town itself is small; the old mining infrastructure, including the entrance to the Henry Gallery above the little port, is part of the landscape.

The Surf House is informal. Rooms are large and bright, there's a TV room and a garden, and the whole place is set up for people who are here to surf rather than to be on holiday in a hotel. You eat breakfast together and head out. If you want to stay in for dinner, you can buy a dinners package that runs Sunday to Thursday, which is a good way to actually talk to the other guests instead of scattering into town every night.

What separates this from a lot of surf camps is the location and the small-group format. Buggerru is not a resort town — it's a working village with a surf school that has been operating here long enough to know the coast properly. Because groups are capped small, the instructor-to-surfer ratio stays useful, and transfers are included to wherever conditions are best rather than being locked to one beach in front of the school.
