Surf & Fitness Weeks on Europe's Atlantic Coast — Cross Training, Yoga & Ocean Time

France · 7 days · From EUR 309

The structure of each week is deliberately simple, because the point is to surf as much as the conditions allow. Mornings start early — typically a light breakfast, then a surf theory briefing and a drive or walk to the day's break with your instructor. Groups are split by level, so absolute beginners get white-water waves and closer supervision while intermediates and advanced surfers get pointed at bigger, faster sections. You're in the water for roughly two hours per session, often twice a day depending on tides and wind. The middle of the day is for eating and lying down. Late afternoon you're back in the water, in a yoga class, or in a cross training session depending on which camp you've booked.

The surf instruction is the core of the package and it's not a token add-on. Lessons are run by ISA and ISLA-certified instructors, and the camps supply boards and wetsuits, so you can swap equipment as conditions change rather than being stuck with one board all week. If you already surf well, you can skip the lessons and just take board rental, which some of the camps allow.

The fitness side varies by camp and is worth reading carefully before booking. The 24+ camp in Moliets is the most structured, with two cross training sessions and three yoga classes slotted into the week alongside full board. The Algarve surf lodge, the Peniche camp and the Caparica surf house near Lisbon each include one cross training session and two yoga classes. The Fuerteventura camp includes three yoga sessions and a trekking tour, so you're walking volcanic terrain as well as surfing. The Morocco and Sri Lanka camps run three or five yoga sessions respectively. If yoga is the bigger draw for you, check the per-camp numbers rather than assuming every week is the same.

Where you stay shapes the feel of the week as much as the waves do. The Moroccan options are the most photogenic: the boutique surf hotel in Tamraght has sea views, gourmet meals and spa access, and the two Aourir camps (Sea View and Pure Surf Camp Morocco) sit on a hillside facing the ocean with full board and three yoga classes. The Fuerteventura camp in Lajares is the year-round choice — the Canaries stay warm in winter when the French and Portuguese Atlantic coast is cold and blown out. The Sri Lanka camp at Kathaluwa is the long-haul option and the only one where you're surfing a tropical beach directly in front of where you sleep. In France, Moliets and Seignosse are classic Atlantic beach-break territory: consistent, punchy, and best in summer and early autumn.

Getting there is handled differently depending on the destination. For the French camps, there's a shuttle bus that runs overnight from Germany to the camp, which takes the hassle out of the drive, or you can fly and take an airport transfer. For Portugal, Morocco, the Canaries and Sri Lanka, the standard route is a flight plus a pre-arranged airport transfer. The team can also price flights for you if you'd rather not book them yourself.

What makes this different from booking a surf camp directly is the breadth — over 20 countries and 15 years of running these trips means the same week can be booked in the Atlantic, the tropics or the desert coast depending on your budget and how far you want to fly. What it isn't is a single fixed retreat with one instructor and one schedule. Each camp has its own team and its own rhythm, so treat the itinerary below as the shape of a typical week and expect the daily timings to shift with the surf report.
