Home › Retreats › Surf & Yoga Wellness Escape on Portugal's Silver Coast
Portugal · 5 days · From EUR 439
The retreat runs across five days with four nights of accommodation, four surf classes, and four yoga classes. The typical day starts around 8 a.m. with a homemade vegetarian breakfast at the guesthouse. Unless the ocean conditions change things, surf lessons run from 9 a.m. for two hours, in groups kept small so each person gets decent coaching. After surfing, the rest of the morning and lunch are yours. You can cook in the communal kitchen, grab lunch at a nearby restaurant in the fishing town of Peniche, or just hang out in the hammock. Yoga happens in the late afternoon or early evening, around sunset, on the guesthouse's outdoor deck. The classes mix hatha and vinyasa, taught by Chiara, an Italian teacher who spends summers in Peniche and runs her own studio back in Ravenna. Her classes are known for clear alignment and sequences that build strength and flexibility, which helps with surfing. If you'd rather book a treatment, the guesthouse has a massage room where you can arrange Sound Healing, Reiki, osteopathy, or a massage for an extra cost, and there's usually someone around to make that happen.
What makes this retreat stand out is the connection it draws between yoga and surfing—two activities that actually complement each other. The yoga isn't an afterthought or a token add-on; it's taught professionally and tailored to the group, and it's easy to see the payoff in the water when you're more flexible and breath-aware on your board. The surf teaching is equally solid, with instructors who emphasize safety and keep the student-to-coach ratio low. Riccardo, the founder and a lifelong surfer, personally runs many of the sessions and brings a technical eye to reading waves and improving your pop-up.
The location, Peniche's Consolação neighborhood, is a genuine surf town a short drive from Lisbon, so it feels both like a vacation and a real immersion in local Portuguese surf culture. The guesthouse attracts a mix of nationalities, mostly Europeans, and the vibe is social without being party-oriented. Solo travelers fit right in—the shared dorms and communal meals make it easy to meet people, and the hosts are proactive about helping you plan your free time. It's a friendly, unpretentious operation that does a few things well.
